Preparing For Your First Brazilian Wax

Updated: Jan 21, 2022

Hi everyone! If you haven't met me yet, I'm Carly, your resident wax specialist!

I've been getting a lot of questions lately about Brazilian and bikini waxing from people who have never had one before. I decided it would be a good idea to address some of these concerns in a blog post! In this post, I will go into more detail about prepping before your appointment, Brazilian do's and don'ts, waxing contraindications, and after care.

So you want a Brazilian wax but you're unsure of what to expect? Don't worry! It's nothing to be afraid of. The service typically is complete in 15-20 minutes, and I promise, you'll be glad you did it.

First thing's first, you need to make sure your hair length is at least 1/4 of an inch in length, or, about the size of an uncooked grain of rice. That means no shaving or chemical removal (such as Nair) for at least 2 weeks before your appointment! If the hair isn't long enough, it can't be removed properly.

Make sure you are not using any retinol or steroid creams on the area to be waxed, within 2 weeks of your appointment.

Prepare the skin by exfoliating with a sugar/salt scrub or buffer the day before. Moisturize the area after. Be sure to take a bath or shower the day of your appointment. If you decide to upgrade to a Deluxe Brazilian, we will prep the skin for you with a steam, exfoliation, and ingrown treatment as part of your service.

Wearing loose clothing to your appointment is recommended. Plan on going commando or bringing a clean pair of underwear to switch into after the service. You don't want to expose your freshly waxed skin to old bacteria!

To alleviate discomfort and inflammation, you can take an ibuprofen 30 minutes prior to your appointment. Most clients report that their first time is typically the most discomfort they experience with waxing, and that it becomes much less uncomfortable over time. This is usually because your hair is thicker before your first wax, as it becomes finer and softer over time with regular waxing. You can alleviate a lot of discomfort by upgrading to the Deluxe Brazilian, which softens the follicles and allows for an effortless hair removal service. By the second appointment, there is usually minimal discomfort. It only gets better, never worse!

If you experience redness or swelling in the area after your service is complete, don't worry! That's completely normal and should subside within 12-24hrs. Use aloe to treat the area if desired, but it will calm down on its own soon.

You will want to avoid hot showers/baths, sexual intercourse, going to the gym or wearing tight clothing for 24hrs after the service, so make sure you plan accordingly!

Your results will last between 3-4 weeks, and yes, that means you'll be hair free for that time! With all waxing services it is recommended you maintain a routine appointment every 4-5 weeks to keep the results you'll love. Remember to never shave or use chemical hair removal in between appointments as this can throw off the hair length schedule and cause a lapse in your progress. Over time, waxing will reduce the amount of overall hair growth and the coarseness of your hair. If the cycle is interrupted by shaving, etc it will take more time to get back on track.

When it's time to come back in, your second visit will be a lot more comfortable, and a lot less painful. Once you get the hang of it, you won't want to go back to shaving! Just take a deep breath, relax, and step into a world of no more bumps, stubble, and razor burn, where smooth skin lasts for weeks.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to comment or reach out to us at anytime.

I look forward to meeting many of you soon!

xoxo

-Carly
